Here are 5 House Plants That Repel Flies And Mosquitoes.

Here’s the time to put your houseplants to work if you have any. There are some that are known to repel flies and send them right back where they came from.

Others scent the room and send the flies out. Many of them thrive indoors and can be part of your indoor or outdoor garden.

1. Tansy

This is considered one of the most effective houseplants you can have in your garden that helps repel flies.

Two unique things about this plant are the smell that repels flies and the fact that it also gives you clusters of pretty yellow flowers to brighten up your home.

Unlike most aromatic plants, it’s the flowers that produce the scent rather than the leaves. So you do need to care for your plant well enough that it will bloom and release scents that dispel flies.

2. Mint

The mint plant grows quite large and extensively and it requires a good-sized pot and lots of space with at least direct sunlight or even indirect lighting.

The best lighting situation for this plant would be more sun in the morning and then lower light for the rest of the day.

Lots of watering would be needed so that it doesn’t dry right out, usually just when the surface of the soil is dry to the touch. Its soil should be loose and able to drain excess water quickly. With the right care and maintenance, this plant does extremely well in repelling mosquitoes and flies.

3. Marigold

Having the marigold plant in your garden will serve a huge purpose. If you are trying to keep out whiteflies, then you should try to add a few marigolds to your indoor or outdoor garden.

Though they do better as outdoor plants, they can actually cope in a pot if they are exposed to ample sunlight.

Not only do they need a full day of light, but they also do great in warm temperatures as well. You can let them dry out a bit between watering too. The scent of marigolds can repel flies, mosquitoes and many other insects too.

4. Citronella

This plant is a widely known mosquito repellent. The lemony citronella plant helps repel other sorts of flies too.

They are a rare kind of plant and as such, it may be difficult to get one in your home.

A true citronella plant will have long leaves and look a lot like a pot of grass.

Once you lay hands on an actual citronella plant, you need a very sunny place for it and constant warm temperatures.

Once winter hits, add a grow light to keep it happy until the longer days are back. If this can be achieved, then the insects around will have company.

5. Venus Flytrap

The list would not be complete without mentioning the classic Venus flytrap. This isn’t your typical indoor plant and it will need some special care. Even so, it can be a very fun addition to your home and yes, they really do eat flies.

In the case of venus flytraps, they need very high moisture content in their surroundings and are often kept in glass terrariums to maintain that environment for them. Their soil can be moist but not soggy. Venus flytrap does not need contact with direct sun, they prefer indirect light or even a little shade anyway.

You keep these plants in good shape and conditions and in return they give you a good result.
